Create Your Focus Board: Start the Year with Intent and Vision
The start of a new year is the perfect time to reflect on your goals and create actionable plans to achieve them. One of my favorite traditions for January is making a focus board. This simple yet powerful tool helps align your conscious and subconscious mind with your aspirations. By having it on my wall all year, I ensure that every time I walk past it, I’m reminded of what I’m working towards and I stay on track with my goals.
Here’s how you can create your own focus board:
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
First, start by collecting images and words that resonate with you. Use Google searches, browse through magazines, or gather your own photos. Think about what inspires you and represents your goals.
You have two options for creating your board:
-
Physical Board: Print out the images, cut them out, and arrange them on a large, colorful board or corkboard.
-
Digital Board: Use tools like Photoshop, Canva, or even Microsoft Word to design a digital collage. Once done, take it to a print shop and print it in A3 or, even better, A2 size.
Step 2: Choose a Theme and Background
Your focus board should reflect a central theme—happiness, passion, balance, or whatever resonates with you. This theme will influence the background color or image you choose. For instance:
-
Use vibrant colors like yellow for joy or green for growth.
-
Opt for a serene background like the sea or an abstract art piece.
Step 3: Arrange Your Vision
Begin arranging your images and words on the board. I often create clusters for different areas of my life—career, health, relationships, personal growth, etc. The most important aspects usually take center stage, while other elements might flow from left to right, representing a chronological journey through the year.
Don’t overthink the arrangement; trust your intuition. Often, when I look back at my focus board, I notice how my priorities naturally fell into place.
Step 4: Display and Use Your Board
Once your focus board is complete, put it up on your wall where you’ll see it daily. You can also use it as a desktop or phone background for constant reminders. Regularly engaging with your board keeps your goals at the forefront of your mind, making it easier to stay motivated and focused.
Bonus Tip: Health Goals and The Switch
If resolving health issues is part of your focus this year, consider adding a big picture of The Switch to your board. Making a visual commitment to attending the course can be a powerful step toward prioritizing your well-being.
Take the time to create your focus board, and you’ll be amazed at how this simple practice can keep you aligned with your goals throughout the year. Here’s to a year of clarity, action, and success!
