Allergies and food intolerances are very common among my clients due to the immune system being impacted by stress, emotional responses, and habitual thinking patterns around their allergen. During the four days of The Switch, many people are able to start eating gluten and dairy with no symptoms, and people have resolved a wide range of other allergies also. A client recently said that she has been allergic to cats since she was a toddler and a random cat walked into her kitchen after Day 2 of The Switch. She had no symptoms at all, even when stroking it, and is now excited to get her own cat.
Your immune system and digestive system work closely together as a powerful army protecting you from invaders. When a macrophage encounters something dangerous, it ingests part of it and places a flag on it to alert a Helper T-cell to come and check it out. The helper T-cell compares the flag with their own library of danger flags. If they find a match, they alert the killer T-cells to come immediately and explode the dangerous cell by injecting it with a chemical. This works well if you have a virus or bacteria but with an allergy, the killer T-cells attack your own healthy cells. One of the chemicals that is excreted when the cells are exploded is histamine, which creates the runny nose, itches and other allergy symptoms. Immune mistakes happen when your body is stuck in the stress response and is under-resourced, or because of a negative association about a substance.
If you fundamentally have great health, feel calm and happy, and the allergy is your only issue, you may not need the whole four-day programme. Instead, you could watch the two-hour webinar – Next Steps for Recovery – to gain some understanding of mind-body interaction and calming techniques, and then do the NLP Allergy Technique in a 1.5 hour individual session to assist your immune system to correct its mistake of reacting to a substance that is not dangerous to the body. This is achieved through a guided visualisation to gently inform your immune system of the changes that it needs to make. This will only address the allergy – you will not learn techniques for use in other areas of your life.
The NLP Allergy Technique has now been applied thousands of times in clinical and training settings and has been effective in changing the vast majority of allergy symptoms. In a study done in Salt Lake City (Hallbom & Smith, 1987), for example, thirty two individuals were guided through the allergy pattern for a multitude of allergies, including pollen, smoke and foods. All but three showed immediate reduction of their symptoms. A six month follow-up revealed that only three of the individuals who had responded positively had any recurrence of their allergies.
If allergies is one of many health problems you experience and/or you know you are often stressed, I would recommend attending The Switch.
The Switch is a four-day programme in a small group setting. You will learn about how stress causes health problems, how mind and belief patterns can unknowingly exacerbate stress, plus how to calm the stress response to allow your body to start healing naturally. The Switch also helps people to identify the underlying cause of their allergies (the bad association that has been subconsciously made about the substance) and resolve that pattern too. An added bonus of doing The Switch is that you won’t just resolve your allergies – you will have techniques to work on other health issues, emotional patterns or enhance any area of your life.
If you don’t feel quite ready to jump into a four-day course, you might like to start with our free 45 minute webinar –First Steps to Recovery– to get a basic overview of how stress affects health overall. This is not specifically targeting allergies.

One of my multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) clients said that she arrived at Day 1 of The Switch and the first thing she noticed was a Glade fragrance bottle on the wall. She knows that she normally vomits when they jet out their fragrance every 15 minutes. She saw it and froze! Then she told herself “Mel says that allergies are just a false brain pathway and I can unlearn it. I’m not going to react. I’m going to unlearn it right now”. So she came into the room, never mentioned the bottle to me, and sat down. She chose to concentrate on the course and the people, and she very quickly forgot the bottle was even there. And… she never once felt even nauseous, let alone vomiting. She hadn’t even learnt the course yet, but she’d already fixed one of her biggest problems by simply making a decision to.
If these very simple suggestions fix your allergies – FANTASTIC!
If they are not enough for you, that’s OK. You have already read on this page about The Switch, the webinars and the NLP Allergy Technique that can all offer far more comprehensive help to you.
* Disclaimer: Mel Abbott is not a medically trained doctor. She is trained in psychology and neuro-linguistic programming. She uses mind-body interventions to help calm the stress response and allow natural healing to occur in the body. This can be used alongside mainstream treatments if you choose. She does not offer diagnoses or medication advice. She recommends that clients return to their doctors after her treatment to confirm that they no longer have their condition and to be advised about safe weaning from their medication.
Mel does careful assessments prior to the programme and only offers places to people whom she thinks would benefit from it. She follows up with all her clients at several junctions after their course and collates the data from their feedback forms to produce the statistics on this website. She is therefore confident that her interventions are helping over 80% of her clients to achieve significant improvements to their health. While many clients report that they have made a full recovery, Mel cannot guarantee this outcome. So far there are no independent research studies or peer reviewed journal articles about The Switch®, though she would welcome such studies to take place.
